Annual Troop Mulch Sale

Troop 683 is selling mulch.  Your support helps our young and growing troop buy equipment, advancement and recognition badges, and instructional material.  We are excited to work again with Silverbrook Nursery and Landscaping to bring you top quality hardwood mulch for your lawn and garden!  And, part of your purchase price is tax deductible!  The cost is just $4.25 for a 3-cubic foot bag of double-shredded hardwood mulch  and $3.25 for a 1-cubic-foot bag of topsoil,  You may pick up your order in the church parking lot on March 16th (4-7 pm) and March 17th (8 am-noon).  Fill out an order form now and mail it by February 22nd!

IMPORTANT DATES:

February 1st, Troop Meeting:  Our February 1st meeting is moved to Thursday, February 2nd.  Same time.  Same place.

February 2nd, Patrol Leader's Council (PLC):  Our February 2nd PLC is moved to Monday, February 6th.  Same time.  Same place (church library).

February 3-5th, Troop Campout:  It's the annual Klondike Derby!  Troop registration must be in by January 17th, please help us get a firm head count this week.  The fee is $35.00 and includes all meals and drinks.  More details to follow.

February 8th, Troop Meeting:  It's the annual Troop 683 family dinner and Court of Honor!  We'll meet in the Parish Hall at 7:00 pm.  We will need Scouts/Scouters to help set up at 6:30 pm and another crew to clean up after the Court of Honor and dessert at about 8:30 pm.  Families please to tell us what you will be bringing.  We will also be kicking off the Friends of Scouting Campaign this month.

February 11th, Troop Leadership Training:  Youth leaders (all with a position of responsibility within the troop) make your plans to attend the troop leadership training on Saturday 9:00 am - 1:00 pm.  We'll have it in one of the classrooms in the church.  More details to follow.

February 12th, Scout Sunday:  Scouts will be recognized at the 8:45 am mass, serving as lectors, ushers and altar servers, so come in uniform to that mass en mass (pun intended). There will be a short reception immediately following in the parish hall where Scout Sunday patches will be awarded all who attend in uniform.  A few are kindly asked to arrive at parish hall before mass to help us set up for the reception. .  Please with any questions you might have.

April 27-29th, Troop Campout: Make your plans to join us at the 46th Annual Scoutmasters' Council Invitational Camporee, an event held at the United States Military Academy at West Point.  Every year approximately 150 troops attend where they interact with West Point Cadets, compete in camporee competition, and even march in a parade!  This is a by invitation only event!

It's also not too early to be thinking about Summer Camp!  We are confirmed for Camp Rock Enon in Gore, Virginia, for July 8-14th:  Please with any questions you might have.

The 2013 National Scout Jamboree will be the very first event to be held at our new home, the Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve (the Summit for short), and will be more action packed and full of adventure than any jamboree that has gone before.  There will have skateboarding, mountain biking, pistol shooting, paddleboarding, zip lines, canopy tours, rafting, kayaking, and much more!  Make your plans to be there now!  Check it out at the the following hot links bsajamboree.org, summit.scouting.org, summitblog.org, facebook.com, and youtube.com.  You get the idea.  Great stuff but you can't be a part of it if you don't sign up, so do it now!
