Welcome to Troop 683

Overview

Troop 683 meets in the St Raymond’s Parish Hall (8750 Pohick Road, Springfield, VA 22153), Wednesdays 7:30 to 8:30 PM every week except over Christmas vacation and during summer camp.  Troop 683 was formed in late-2005 and is rapidly building a reputation for excellence.

Troop 683 is "Scout-run" in both word and practice.  Our purpose is to help Scouts become honorable men.  To achieve this, Troop 683 uses an active outdoor program that encourages youth leadership to build moral strength and character, foster citizenship and develop physical, mental, and emotional fitness.

Program - the key to keeping boys in Scouting and delivering the promise

The Troop’s annual program is developed by the Scouts themselves and includes monthly campouts and other special activities and service projects such as: Scouting for Food, Scouting on the Mall, Camporees, religious retreats, and other district and council events.  Monthly campouts typically start with a departure on Friday evening around 5:30 and a return home Sunday morning or early afternoon depending on the location of the campout.

Summer camp in 2011 will be at Rock Enon Boy Scout Resident Camp in Gore, Virginia, from 8 to 14 July.  Summer camp cost is yet to be determined (camperships are available).  In coming years, high adventure activities will be added such as Sea Base, Philmont Scout Reservation, and Northern Tier Canoe Base.

Each spring the Troop holds a mulch sale to raise money to support our program.  Each Scout and his parent(s) are expected to participate.

All Scouts are expected to wear uniforms (shirts and pants/shorts) to all events unless told otherwise.
